Description
Rescue: The Beagles is a charming but challenging retro platformer/runner with unique parallax based gameplay. The game offers core gaming experience focused on score attacks and reaching high levels, paying homage to classic 8-bit era arcades. Play as Nicole or Edwin and rescue as many adorable doggies as possible from an evil biohazard brigade. Overcome treacherous mountain terrain by parkouring, roping and parachuting in an intense, fast paced chase through colorful procedurally generated levels. Command owls and wield them as a weapon against a horde of biohazard dudes, vivisectors, lab executives and more. Upgrade your skills and consume wild goji berries to gain superpowers!
History
The initial Rescue: The Beagles prototype was created way back in 2008 for a prominent game jam. It was built from scratch in only two weeks. The Beagles won the jam, amongst hundreds of entries! The game's story was inspired by real events. An actual beagle abuse incident took place at a veterinary institute in developer's hometown. The news about it hit the front pages and caused public outrage. Near that time the developer Nenad was regularly hiking the Alps. On one such hike, a heated discussion about beagles took place. This created an unlikely fusion of beagles and mountain peaks in Nenad's mind and thus the game was conceived.

Nenad Jalsovec is a game developer and visual artist based in Zagreb, Croatia. A computer science student, turned rogue artist, turned game designer, Nenad worked as an art director for several indie titles and released a string of retro inspired freeware games over the years.
